War Means Rape and Death for Women
The initiative formed at the Turkey leg of the "World march of women" called on everyone who demands "freedom, peace and democracy and who are pro-life," to say "No" to war once again.
In a press statement, the initiative said that the anti-Kurdish, nationalist and militarist climate is on the rise again in Turkey with the events that followed after March 20, 2005 when two children in Mersin allegedly burned the Turkish flag.
"The lack of response to the six-year-long cease fire and peace climate, is provoking once again the formation of all kinds of guerilla, profiteer, militarist and patriarchal groups," said the statement. "This is worrying us women."
The participants of the Istanbul Network of the World Walk for Women, who demand a world of equality, freedom, solidarity, justice and peace, said "No to War in Turkey!"
The Istanbul Network of the World March for Women said problems couldn't be solved under the shadows of weapons. The women added that as the women of Turkey, they want to live in a fair and free world of equality, where weapons have been silenced and where there are no wars. (AD/EA/YE)
